FOR RELEASE March 31, 1998
HUNTINGTON, IN Ready for a Shakespearean, rock 'n roll, outer space adventure? Huntington College Theatre's production of Return to the Forbidden Planet promises to rock the Merillat Centre for the Arts main stage. Performances of Bob Carlton's zany musical are scheduled for April 23, 24, and 25 at 8 p.m. nightly.
"The story is loosely based on Shakespeare's The Tempest," explains director Dr. Don Rainbow, head of Huntington College's theatre department. "The show rockets along like a comic book spaceship headed for Mars. It will appeal to all generations -- just camp enough for today's crowd, and a nostalgic trip back in time for us old rock n' rollers. Granny, however, may grumble about the decibels!"
The show is "an exuberant onslaught of unashamed sci-fi humor and riotous music that leaves the audience screaming for more." It features rock hits of yesterday, including songs by the Beach Boys, Connie Francis, The Moody Blues, and Elvis. Rainbow said, "If you ever fell asleep in literature class and have a taste for rock n' roll, Return to the Forbidden Planet is the show for you!"
Tickets are $7 for adults, $5 for students and seniors, "$20 for children under 5, and babiesdon't even ask!" quips Rainbow. The show features giant alien tentacles and other scenes that may frighten young children. Tickets go on sale to the public Monday April 6. For further information, call the HC Theater Box Office at (260) 359-4275 weekdays, 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.
