New College Trustees attend winter retreatHUNTINGTON, IN JANUARY 30, 1998 Huntington College's Board of Trustees held its annual winter retreat in Adrian, Michigan, January 22-23. Newly-elected trustees attended an informative orientation session Thursday. New trustees include:
Nicholas J. Hoty of Huron, Ohio, president of Hoty Enterprises, a commercial real estate sales, development, and management firm. Hoty has served as president of his community's Chamber of Commerce and Board of Realtors, as trustee of Christ the King School of Theology, and an advisory board member for the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. He was named Lakewood Man of the Year in 1979.
Patrick B. Jones of Chambersburg, Pennsylvania, pastor of King Street Church of the United Brethren in Christ. Rev. Jones has previously served as pastor of Immanual United Brethren Church in Carlisle, Pennsylvania, and Devonshire Memorial Church in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. He is a past Superintendent of Pastoral Development and Senior Superintendent of the Pennsylvania Conference of the Church of the United Brethren in Christ.
Brian D. Nofzinger of Adrian, Michigan, audit manager for the certified public accountant firm of Gross, Puckey, Gruel, and Roof, P.C. Mr. Nofzinger is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the Michigan Association of Certified Public Accountants, and the Adrian Kiwanis Club. He has previously served as president of the Lenawee County Fair. Mr. Nofzinger currently serves as president of the Huntington College Alumni Association.
Asa J. Swan of Campbellsville, Kentucky, president of the Huntington College student body. Mr. Swan previously served as student body president of Lindsey Wilson College, where he earned an associate's degree in social science in 1996. He is currently pursuing a bachelor of arts degree in history at Huntington College.
Two additional changes were made to the composition of the Board of Trustees:
Hon. Jeffrey R. Heffelfinger, Huntington Superior Court judge, was re-elected to the Board as a member of the Education Commission of the Church of the United Brethren in Christ. Heffelfinger is a member of the Indiana Judges Association and Huntington County Bar Association. Since 1993, he has served as chairman of the Local Coordinating Council for a Drug-Free Huntington County.
Carol Longaker Shuttleworth, corporate secretary and director of Shuttleworth Inc., returned to service on the Huntington College Board of Trustees. The family-owned company manufactures precision conveyors for industry. Mrs. Shuttleworth helped found the Wings of Freedom Aviation Museum in Huntington and serves on the advisory board of the Merillat Centre for the Arts. She previously served as a college trustee from 1988 to 1994.
In open session, the Board of Trustees authorized construction of a new residence hall at Huntington College, set tuition rates for the 1998-99 school year, and reaffirmed support of the Huntington Plan, Indiana's first tuition-freeze program.
Founded in 1897, Huntington College seeks to "educate men and women to impact our world for Christ." Located on a contemporary, lakeside campus in Huntington, Indiana, the four-year Christian liberal arts school offers graduate and undergraduate degrees in nearly 50 academic concentrations.
