Huntington Announces Modest Tuition Changes for 1999-2000
Many Students Freeze Tuition Rates
FOR RELEASE-- January 27, 1999
HUNTINGTON, INTuition rates at Huntington College will increase slightly next year, but many Huntington upperclassmen will not have to pay the higher rate, thanks to the college's unique tuition freeze plan.
Huntington College trustees have authorized a modest 4.3% increase in tuition for the 1999-2000 academic year, the lowest rate of increase in six years. Tuition at the four-year Christian liberal arts college will be $12,780 next year. College officials say strong enrollment, a stable economy, and improved efficiency have helped contain costs.
Many Huntington upperclassmen will experience no tuition increase next year. With the "Huntington Plan," a student can freeze his or her tuition costs for up to four years by paying a one-time fee. This is the only plan of its type in Indiana and one of few offered nationally. About 45% of Huntington upperclassmen are currently registered for the tuition freeze program.
Students not already enrolled in the Huntington Plan may obtain a special contract from the Business Office. Students and their parents must complete, sign and return this form along with a non-refundable one-time fee equal to 10% of Huntington's current-year tuition. This year's deadline for enrolling in the Huntington Plan is April 30, 1999.
The Huntington Plan has proven to be a wise investment. A student who enrolled in the Huntington Plan as a freshman in May, 1995 would have saved $2,465 in tuition before graduation, more than two and a half times the initial cost of enrolling in the Plan.
Huntington College offers exceptional value for the tuition dollar. Huntington's tuition ranks 18th among the 27 comparable four-year independent colleges and universities in the state. Though midrange in price, Huntington offers superior academic quality. In five of the past six years, US News and World Report has ranked Huntington in the top tier of Midwestern liberal arts colleges. A greater percentage of Huntington faculty have earned doctorates than at any other Indiana member of the Coalition for Christian Colleges and Universities.
Founded in 1897, Huntington College seeks "to equip men and women to impact our world for Christ." Located on a contemporary, wooded campus in Huntington, Indiana, the four-year liberal arts college offers undergraduate and graduate degrees in nearly 50 academic concentrations.
