History (BA)

Huntington University offers a broad program of study in history with degrees designed to prepare students for advanced work in law, political science, and other social sciences; for graduate studies in history and other fields in the humanities; for teaching history and social studies at the middle school and high school level; and for entry-level positions in business and government.

You will learn both content and process. We place a strong emphasis on three things: studying history as a means of improving your “cultural literacy”; striving to understand your own world view and that of others; and acquiring a mastery of critical historical methodology—that is, understanding how historians work.

You may also participate in a variety of off-campus learning opportunities.

Your history degree can prepare you for a wide variety of careers.  Our alumni have gone on to graduate school in fields such as history, law, international relations, library science, theology, business, education, educational administration, journalism, and even exercise physiology. They have become members of Congress, judges, teachers, businessmen, theologians, librarians, international consultants, Congressional staff members, college administrators, and college professors. A Huntington history degree opens many doors for many different people. The University's Enterprise Resource Center can help you explore career options through internship opportunities.

We invite you to learn more about our Department of History and Political Science. Visit our campus soon to meet our professors and students, and to discover if our history program is right for you.
