Political Studies

Huntington University offers a broad program of study in history including a degree in political studies designed to prepare students for advanced work in law, political science and other social sciences. In the History and Political Science Department, you will learn both content and process. The Bachelor of Arts degree in political studies is designed for those students who wish to study and understand the practical and theoretical elements of the political process, both historically and in the present day.

As a political studies major, you will study the nature of politics as well as the public interest. You will be given the opportunity to develop not only cognitive skills, but also practical knowledge of the American political process.

In addition, you will be required to complete an internship that will provide extended exposure to patterns of political behavior and the formation of public policy. Your internship can include opportunities with a department of local, state or federal government, political party, public affairs organization or advocacy group. Huntington University’s Enterprise Resource Center will help you land the right internship experience that will benefit both you and the company for which you will work.

You will have off-campus opportunities through the Council for Christian Colleges and Universities’ (CCCU) American Studies Program (ASP) in Washington, D.C. This program is an interdisciplinary internship/seminar program offered to juniors and seniors. Designed to expose undergraduates to opportunities for involvement in public life, ASP also provides students with a general understanding of the public policy dynamics at work in the nation's capital. Students live together in campus apartments, work as voluntary interns and participate in a seminar program for which they receive full academic credit.
