Assistant Professor of History Director of the Centre for Non-Western Studies Smith joined the faculty in the fall of 2007. He previously taught history at the University of East Anglia - in the United Kingdom. His research and teaching focus on three themes: British decolonization, the international history of the Indo-Chinese peninsular and British international politics since 1919. He is the author of Britain and the Origins of the Vietnam War 1943-50 (2007). Smith has also published a number of articles in leading journals and for the BBC. He is currently working on a new study of Winston Churchill and Second World War post-hostilities planning for Southeast Asia. Smith teaches the following history and political studies courses:
