Dr. Tim Smith joined the faculty in the fall of 2007. He previously taught history at the University of East Anglia - in the United Kingdom - including courses on 'Britain and Empire' and 'America and Vietnam'.
Prof. Smith's research examines British decolonisation in South and Southeast Asia. He is particularly interested in British policy towards French Indo-China. He is the author of Britain and the Origins of the Vietnam War 1943-50 (2007). Dr. Smith has also published a number of articles in leading journals. He is currently working on a new study of Winston Churchill and Second World War post-hostilities planning.
