Reference Books Online
Often, subject
encyclopedias and handbooks, but not general ones, may be used as sources
for research. Always ask your instructor before citing subject encyclopedia
articles. When using
an encyclopedia or handbook, always check the index for your subject. The
subject is often
broken down into subcategories, or it is found under different terms than those
you are using.
The index is usually found in the last volume.
When using
encyclopedias or journals, consider using "Works Cited" entries that were used
to
write the articles. Bibliographies are often found after an article (journals
and books), in the last
volume, or in a separate volume of reference books.

Journals Online
After having used the
OPAC to find
books from the general stacks and Reference,
begin looking in journals for articles. The library subscribes to several
databases
through EbscoHost, Gale/Thomson-InfoTrac, and eLibrary
(see below). Also there
are a number of free, online, Web databases (see below: Find Articles
(Look Smart), High Beam, High Wire Press, and Ingenta
Connect).
Most likely you will begin by looking for full text articles. However, as
you search
for complete or more extensive materials on your topic, you will want to
consider
cited (the bibliographic information only) or abstracted (a summary of the
article)
articles. If the library does not have the journal article you want,
use RichLyn
