Bands from Huntington County Schools, the Taylor University Wind Ensemble and the Huntington University Wind Ensemble present a gala program of concert band classics.

Faculty Artist Series
The Phil Schurger Group
October 8, 7:30 p.m.
MCA Zurcher Auditorium                                                           
      A concert of highly dynamic works in the jazz and modern chamber music style. Schurger's compositions blend the inventiveness of Impressionist music with the spontaneity of improvisation and driving rhythms of jazz.

The Huntington University Concert Choir and Orchestra join forces with the Community Festival Chorus in the 55th annual Huntington performance of a timeless masterpiece.


Visiting Artist Series
An Evening of Chamber Music
David Rezits, cello

February 1, 7:30 p.m.
MCA Zurcher Auditorium

A member of the Fort Wayne Philharmonic will be joining Huntington University's Dr. Patricia Spedden in some treasured works for cello and piano. David Rezits, cellist in the Fort Wayne Philharmonic since 1991, holds degrees from Indiana University and the State University of New York at Stony Brook. He has worked with renowned conductors including Leonard Bernstein, Seiji Ozawa, Kurt Masur Gunther Schuller, Maurice Abravanel, Maxim Schostakovich and Robert Shaw. He collaborated with a CD recording with classical guitarist and composer Suliaman Zai, and has taught and performed internationally in music festival in the Czech Republic, Peru and Ecuador.

Note: David Ling, violinist and Associate Concertmaster of the Fort Wayne Philharmonic, was originally scheduled to perform as part of this event but will not appear.

Classical Praise with Images
Dr. Patricia Spedden, piano

      Dr. Patricia Spedden, professor of piano studies and music theory at Huntington University, will perform her piano arrangements--classical works blended with hymns and praise songs--against a backdrop of visual images. Her arrangements have been recorded on two CDs--Classical Praise: Solo Piano (2003) and Classical Praise: Solo Piano Encore (2007)--and are marketed internationally by Discovery House Music in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

Annual Longaker Honors Recital

Featuring the most talented young musicians of the HU Music Department chosen in a rigorous audition process performing on piano, wind, string and percussion instruments or singing. The recital program will feature a wide variety of solo and chamber music repertoire performed at the highest level of skill and professionalism.

Tenth Annual Concerto Winners Concert

Featuring the winners of the HU Concerto Competition held in November, the concert will showcase extremely talented instrumentalists and vocalists from the university as well as one extraordinarily gifted high school musician.

The theme will be music inspired by faith and in search of peace. The concert will be a combined program with the Manchester College Symphonic Band.
