At Huntington University, we offer conservatory-level training within the context of a rich liberal arts education. We will help you develop as a musician and scholar, and ultimately expand the depth and breadth of your creative energy and expression for the glory of God.

As a music composition major at Huntington, you will combine concentrated music and theory courses with applied composition classes. Your talents will become refined under the instruction of professors who are actively performing or composing, some of whom have studied, performed, or conducted internationally. As a member of Huntington’s vocal and instrumental ensembles, you will be enriched by fellow students who share your same passions for music and for Christ.

The Composition program at Huntington is extremely individualized and thoroughly prepares the aspiring young composer for any major university or conservatory theory and/or composition program in the country. Students are taught to use Sibeluis and Finale software and master both traditional and avant-garde techniques.

You will have opportunities to participate in a variety of off-campus study opportunities, including the CCCU’s Contemporary Music Center on Martha’s Vineyard. Closer to home, you will have ready access to the Fort Wayne Philharmonic, the Indianapolis Symphony, the Fort Wayne Ballet, the Indianapolis Opera, and numerous theatre companies and art galleries.

In addition, internationally renowned artists and experts regularly present guest lectures, concerts, and master classes on campus.
