Hiromi Ito has served as the Concertmaster of the Fort Wayne Philharmonic since 1993. Although he started playing the violin at the age of three, Ito graduated from college as a physics major before winning a grant from the Japanese government, which enabled him to study music in Europe. Upon returning to Japan, he was appointed concertmaster of the Kyushu Symphony in his hometown of Fukuoka. Ito came to the United States for further study at Indiana University in Bloomington. He has studied under Shmuel Ashkenasi, Yuval Yaron, and Christian Ferras. Since coming to the United States, Ito has been a member of the Buffalo Philharmonic and the Baltimore Symphony. He frequently performs with the Chicago Symphony. He has made many solo appearances in Japan, Germany, and the United States. |
