In addition to the liberal arts degree in Music for the Contemporary Church, Huntington University also offers an open liberal arts degree in music with no specialization, allowing the student more time for elective studies and/or a minor. This general music degree program is usually not sufficient preparation for a graduate program in music and will not certify someone as a teacher, therapist, professional church musician, or enable them to fill a managerial position in the music industry. However, the BA in Music allows students with a non-professional interest in music to pursue their love of the art form and build their skills as commanded by God for use as a semi-professional applied teacher or church musician. Many of the most successful companies in the United States and abroad including Sony Technologies, AT&T, and Xerox have stated in print that they strive to hire liberal arts graduates for management training who have studied music. |
