College Phone Number to Change

For Release November 16, 2001
HUNTINGTON, IN—Last summer, the Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission announced that area code 219 would be divided into three regions, and that part of northeast Indiana would adopt a new area code.  As a result, the area code for Huntington, Fort Wayne, and surrounding areas will be changing from 219 to 260.

Beginning January 15, 2002, Huntington College's main switchboard number will change to (260) 356-6000.  All other campus numbers -- including phone extensions serving students, faculty and staff -- will also switch to the new 260 area code. Local cellular phone numbers will change, as well. Toll-free service will not be affected.

A transitional "permissive dialing period" will extend from January 15 to June 14, 2002.  Between these dates, both area codes will work.  After June 14, only area code 260 will be effective.

What does this mean for Huntington College?

First, HC staff and administrators are currently phasing out stationary, business cards, and other supplies imprinted with area code 219.  New materials are currently being ordered bearing the new area code 260. The changeover should be complete before the six-month transition period ends on June 14.

Second, we are asking HC constituents to begin using the new area code on January 15. This will allow six months for everyone to become accustomed to the new number.

Please make a note of the College’s new area code and primary telephone number.  If you have any questions, please feel free to contact John Paff, managing director of communications. After January 15, you can call John at (260) 359-4048.
