Hamer, Loshe named Foresters of the Year

HUNTINGTON, IN – The 32^nd annual Huntington College Forester Night was held Tuesday, May 6, 2003, at Huntington College. Foresters of the Year, the Alpha Chi Award and Outstanding Senior Awards in various departments were presented throughout the evening. Foresters of the Year are chosen by a student body vote, taken the week before Forester Night.

Lindsey Hamer, an educational ministries major from Baldwin, Illinois, was named Female Forester of the Year. She has been very active on campus with the Joe Mertz Center for Volunteer Service. Hamer took full advantage of Huntington’s opportunities to study abroad as she spent a semester in studying in Jerusalem in the fall of 2001, and spent the fall 2002 semester in Honduras on her seven-month educational ministry PRIME (Practical Research through Immersion and Ministry Evaluation) internship. While in Honduras last fall, the student body named her Homecoming Queen. Hamer also earned the educational ministries Outstanding Senior Award on Tuesday. She is a Dean’s List honoree.

Matthew Loshe, an elementary education major from Monroe, Indiana, was named Male Forester of the Year. He is a member of the Forester men’s tennis team and a Dean’s List honoree. He is also very active in the Joe Mertz Center for Volunteer Service, has led small groups and served as a campus leader for Ekklesia, a student-run evening chapel service. Last fall, the study body named him Homecoming King.

The Outstanding Alpha Chi Scholar Award was presented to Katie Smith, a music performance major from Oak Creek, Colorado. She is a member of the choir, wind ensemble, chamber orchestra and pep band. Among numerous academic and musical honors, Smith also represented Huntington College at the Huntington County Rotary and has been involved with various theatre performances. She is a Dean’s List honoree and was presented the Outstanding Senior Award in Music on Tuesday.

Faculty from each department voted on an Outstanding Senior within their department and then announced and presented a plaque to the individual on Forester Night. Following are the recipients in each department.
