Fode, Hannie garner Athlete of the Week honors

FOR RELEASE April 4, 2005
HUNTINGTON, IN— The Huntington College athletic department announced its Athletes of the Week for the week of March 28-April 3, 2005. Women’s softball senior Kaley Fode and men’s track junior Cody Hannie earned the honors for their outstanding efforts during the week.

Kaley Fode

Kaley Fode, an Elementary Education major from Upland, Indiana (Eastbrook High School), was a solid performer at the plate in the Foresters’ five games during the week.  Fode had seven hits in 13 at-bats for a .538 average, knocked in six RBI, scored six runs and added a stolen base.  The highlight of her week came in Huntington’s 12-8 win over Robert Morris when she went 3-4 at the plate with three RBI and three runs scored.  The 3-14 Foresters return to action on Tuesday, April 5 when they travel to Marion to take on the Indiana Wesleyan Wildcats at 3:00 p.m.

Cody Hannie

Cody Hannie, an English Education major from Ft. Wayne, Indiana (Snider High School), provided one of the Foresters’ highlights in their four-team invitational on Saturday.  Hannie trailed Bethel College’s Matt Wells coming into the final turn of the men’s 1500 meter run, but out-sprinted his opponent to edge Wells at the finish by 5/100th of a second for the win.   Hannie crossed the line in 4:16.4 with Wells following in 4:16.9.  Hannie also added a third place finish in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:02.4.  The Foresters will next compete in the Indiana Intercollegiate at IUPUI on Friday and Saturday, April 8-9.

The Huntington College Foresters compete in 14 intercollegiate sports for men and women. In the past eight years, Huntington has produced 52 NAIA All-American honors and 102 All-American Scholar Athlete honors.
