Shook, Porter garner Forester Athlete of Week honors

FOR RELEASE May 2, 2005
HUNTINGTON, IN— The Huntington College athletic department announced its Athletes of the Week for the week of April 25-May 1, 2005.  Women’s track freshman Jennifer Shook and men’s baseball senior Brian Porter earned the honors for their outstanding efforts during the week.

Jennifer Shook

Jennifer Shook, a business major from Fremont, Ind. (Fremont High School), had an outstanding individual performance at the Mid-Central Conference (MCC) Track and Field Championships on the weekend.  She had personal bests in all four of her throwing events including the discus, hammer, javelin, and shot put.  The highlight came in the discus throw which she won with a toss of 118-05 after initially being seeded third in the event.  Her win earned her MCC All-Conference honors, one of just three Forester women to do so.   The women finished fourth in the team standings with 84 points.

Brian Porter

Brian Porter, a recreation management major from Alexandria, Ind. (Alexandria-Monroe High School), helped lead the Forester baseball team to a 5-1 week with his bat.  The 6’4 senior outfielder went 8-19 at the plate, including a double and a homerun, for a .421 average and knocked in 10 runs over the six games.  He also scored five runs and drew four walks.  Porter, who leads Huntington with his .415 batting average, was one of two Foresters to receive MCC All-Conference honors.  The Foresters are currently 19-19 on the season and head into MCC Conference Tournament play later this week.  Huntington will face Bethel College in first round action on Thursday, May 5 at 11:00 a.m., at Indiana Wesleyan University.

The Huntington College Foresters compete in 14 intercollegiate sports for men and women. In the past eight years, Huntington has produced 52 NAIA All-American honors and 102 All-American Scholar Athlete honors.
