Fode, Sanders named Forester Athletes of Week

FOR RELEASE May 9, 2005
HUNTINGTON, IN— The Huntington College athletic department announced its Athletes of the Week for the week of May 2-8, 2005.  Women’s softball senior Kaley Fode and men’s track freshman Joel Sanders earned the honors for their outstanding efforts during the week.

Kaley Fode

Kaley Fode, an elementary education major from Upland, Ind. (Eastbrook High School), proved she was deserving of her Mid-Central Conference honors with her solid individual performance for the Foresters in their final week of play.  In Monday’s game with Goshen, Fode, who was the lone Forester selected to the MCC All-Conference team, went 2-4 at the plate for Huntington including a game-winning homerun in the 13th inning to help the Foresters earn a spot in the MCC tournament.  In two tournament games, she added two hits and three RBI.   She finished the season with a team-leading .313 batting average and a team-high 18 RBI.

Joel Sanders

Joel Sanders, an elementary education major from Fort Wayne, Ind. (Snider High School) broke the school record with his performance in the 800 meter run at the Butler Twilight track meet.  Sanders, Huntington's top finisher in the race, placed third with a time of 1:52.78.  The previous school record of 1:53.91 was set by Jay Weiseman in 1996.  His time also met the NAIA standard for automatic qualification in the event at the NAIA Outdoor Track & Field National Championships which will be held May 26-28 in Louisville, Kentucky.

The Huntington College Foresters compete in 14 intercollegiate sports for men and women. In the past eight years, Huntington has produced 52 NAIA All-American honors and 102 All-American Scholar Athlete honors.
