Indiana Beta Chapter of Alpha Chi inducts 18 scholars FOR RELEASE October 1, 2004
Huntington, Ind.— Huntington College welcomed 18 new members into the Indiana Beta Chapter of Alpha Chi in a convocation held today in the Merillat Centre for the Arts. Students were recognized for their superior academics and exceptional character. “Membership in Alpha Chi is the highest academic honor at Huntington College and represents both a recognition of scholastic achievement and a commitment to promoting academic excellence on and off campus,” said Dr. Paul E. Michelson, distinguished professor of history and chapter sponsor for the Indiana Beta Chapter of Alpha Chi. The following students at Huntington College received induction into Alpha Chi in 2004:
Alpha Chi is a national honor society for undergraduate juniors and seniors in all academic disciplines. In 1997, it celebrated 75 years of activity. Its objectives are the stimulation, development and recognition of scholarship and those elements of scholarship that make scholarship effective for good. The Indiana Beta Chapter of Alpha Chi National Honor Scholarship Society was established in 1967. It is active in the regional and national activities of Alpha Chi and was named the National Chapter of the Year in 2001. This past year, for the ninth consecutive year, The Indiana Beta Chapter was selected as a Star Chapter of Alpha Chi. The motto of Alpha Chi nationally is the same as that of Huntington College: “You shall know the truth and the truth shall make you free.” Huntington College is a comprehensive Christian college of the liberal arts offering graduate and undergraduate programs in more than 70 academic concentrations. U.S.News & World Report ranks Huntington among the best Midwestern colleges. Founded in 1897 by the Church of the United Brethren in Christ, Huntington College is located on a contemporary, lakeside campus in Huntington, Indiana. The College is a member of the Council for Christian Colleges and Universities (CCCU) and was named one of the 50 best Christian places to work by Christianity Today magazine.
