HUNTINGTON, IN— Huntington College physical education major Ashley Gonterman has been selected as the College’s nominee for the outstanding major of the year award. This award program that recognizes outstanding majors is sponsored by the College and University Physical Education Council (CUPEC) through the National Association for Sport and Physical Education (NASPE). The outstanding major students from colleges and universities around the country will be presented a certificate of recognition at a ceremony during the national convention of the American Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance (AAHPERD) to be held April 12-16 in Chicago. Outstanding majors are selected according to their grade point average (GPA), service to school or community and class standing.

Gonterman, a junior from Roanoke, Ind., has been involved in a number of different activities, including intercollegiate track and soccer, Student Senate and Habitat for Humanity. She has been named a National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) All-America Scholar Athlete, earned All-Conference honors in track and was the Forester Defensive Player of the Year in soccer. Gonterman is former Vice President of the Huntington College chapter of Habitat for Humanity and currently serves as President and Administrative Coordinator. She was a member of Habitat’s spring trip to Jacksonville, Fla., in 2004, and plans to travel with the college chapter to Morgantown, W.V., in 2005. Gonterman has earned several Dean’s List honors and was inducted into the Alpha Chi National Honor Society in 2004.
