McPherren, Thompson receive May Peer Awards

FOR RELEASE May 24, 2005

HUNTINGTON, IN—The Huntington College Peer Award has been passed on to two individuals for the month of May. The April recipients, Dr. Paul Michelson and Mrs. Pat Jones, passed their awards on to Dr. Ann McPherren and Mrs. Barbara Thompson, respectively. The Peer Award was created to promote acknowledgement and recognition of the outstanding efforts of faculty and staff members.

Dr. Ann McPherren
receives the May Peer Award from Dr. Paul Michelson.

Michelson passed his award to Ann McPherren, professor of business and economics. McPherren has been with the College for 24 years.  In presenting the award to McPherren, Michelson stated, “I have appreciated over the years working with Ann as a colleague and as a co-sponsor of Alpha Chi National Honor Society.  I was reminded of this last month when our chapter was again selected as a national Star Chapter and one of our students won a national scholarship.  Ann has been a dependable collaborator in keeping the local chapter’s many activities expanding and going.  I also appreciate her awareness of and dedication to Huntington’s liberal arts program and to the significant academic values and principles represented by that program.”

Mrs. Barbara Thompson receives the May Peer Award from Mrs. Pat Jones.

Jones passed the award on to Barbara Thompson, administrative assistant to the president. Thomson has worked at the College for 18 years.  In recognizing Thompson, Jones commented, “I have appreciated Barbara’s dedication to Huntington College and her organization and planning skills that benefit us all.  She has a kind and caring manner and always takes the time to be interested in me on a personal basis as well as job related.”

McPherren and Thompson will pass the award to two new recipients from another department during the month of June. For more information on the Peer Award, visit www.huntington.edu/hr/peeraward.
