MCA Sound sets the standard

HUNTINGTON, IN—The Merillat Center for the Arts, the performance center at Huntington College, has been set apart from other facilities of its kind with the recent purchase of  the BSS Soundweb London BLU-16, the latest technology in sound system control. The College is known to be one of the first institutions of higher education in the nation to acquire the system. 

Justin Spitler, technical director for the MCA, explained, “With students doing a good share of the audio duties at the school, having the students learning brand new technology will really give them a good footing in the industry when they graduate.”  

Spitler breaks through the technological jargon to explain the department’s enthusiasm. “We chose the BLU-16 over other units because of the great reliability, flexibility and sonic characteristics of the Soundweb name.”

Not only will students have training on the latest technology, but it will give the technology department the capability it needs to handle the breadth and depth of MCA performances. “We really needed a lot of flexibility in routing because of the nature of events that we hold in our auditorium.  Hosting events from rock concerts to Indiana Supreme Court hearings, we really need quick and easy set-ups,” Spitler said.

With the purchase of the BLU-16, the Merillat Center for the Arts will be set apart. Spitler stated, “Being one of the first higher education facilities in the nation with the new Soundweb London gives our students a chance to learn on equipment that is pretty much the standard in the industry.”

Huntington College is a comprehensive Christian college of the liberal arts offering graduate and undergraduate programs in more than 70 academic concentrations. Following a decade of growth and development, Huntington College will become Huntington University in mid-2005.
