HUNTINGTON, IN—The Huntington University Athletic Department announced its Athletes of the Week for the week of January 9-15, 2006.  Men’s basketball freshman Kyle Benge and women’s basketball senior Betsey Bean earned the honor for their excellent efforts during the weeks’ competitions.

Betsey Bean, an exercise science major from Olivet, Mich. Kyle Benge, an elementary/special education major from Plymouth, Ind. (Plymouth High School), gave the Foresters a lift off the bench in both of Huntington’s games on the week.  Against the Cougars of Spring Arbor, Benge poured in a team-high 20 points on 6-8 shooting, including 3-4 from behind the arc and 5-6 from the line.  In the Foresters’ 83-68 win over Bethel on Saturday, he came off the bench to score 15 points and added four rebounds and three assists.  Benge is currently averaging 10.9 points per game for Huntington.  The NAIA 2nd-ranked Foresters (17-4, 6-2) will next travel to Kentucky for a rematch with the Tigers of Georgetown College on Tuesday, January 17 at 7 p.m.
