Berry, Sanders acknowledged as Athletes of the Week FOR RELEASE January 30, 2006 HUNTINGTON, IN—The Huntington University Athletic Department announced its Athletes of the Week for the week of January 23-29, 2006. Men’s track sophomore Joel Sanders and women’s basketball junior Amy Berry earned the honor for their excellent efforts during the weeks’ competitions. Amy Berry, a public relations major from Marion, Ind. (Oak Hill High School), had a strong performance in both of the Foresters’ conference games this week. Against St. Francis, Berry went 13 for 16 from the field and 3-3 from the line for a game-high 29 points and five rebounds. In Huntington’s 74-72 overtime win at Taylor, she scored 15 points, grabbed five boards and had two steals. Berry currently leads the Foresters in scoring at 16.2 points per game. Huntington (12-10, 7-4) next will host Grace College on Wednesday, February 1, 2006, at 7 p.m. Joel Sanders, an elementary education major from Fort Wayne, Ind. (Snider High School), broke his own school record with his performance in the 1000 meter run at the University of Findlay Track Invitational. Sanders, Huntington's top finisher in the race, placed fourth with a time of 2:32.63. He took a second off his previous mark of 2:33.63 set last spring. His time also met NAIA qualification standards for competing in the event at the National Indoor Track and Field Championships in March.
