Ward, Grow named Forester Athletes of the Week

FOR RELEASE April 3, 2006

HUNTINGTON, IN—The Huntington University Athletic Department announced its Athletes of the Week for the week of March 27-April 2, 2006.  Softball freshman Lauren Ward and baseball sophomore Korey Grow earned the honor for their excellent efforts during the week’s competitions.

Lauren Ward

Lauren Ward, an accounting major from Butler, Ind. (Eastside High School), went 2-0 on the mound for the Foresters during the week.  In Huntington’s 3-1 win over the University of St. Francis, Ward (4-3) gave up an unearned run on three hits while striking out seven and walking two.  Against Grace, the freshman struck out a career-high 16 batters and allowed just one hit and a walk in the 8-0 shutout.  Ward leads the Forester pitching staff with a 1.4 ERA.  Huntington (8-14, 4-4) returns to action on Tuesday, April 4, 2006, when they host Indiana Wesleyan University at 3 p.m.

Korey Grow

Korey Grow, an elementary education major from Sullivan, Ind. (Sullivan High School), had a great week at the plate for the Forester baseball team.  In five games, Grow banged out 11 hits, six for extra bases, in 22 at-bats for a .500 average.  He had three doubles, two triples and a homerun to post a .955 slugging percentage for the week.  He also drove in eight runs and scored four times for Huntington.  Grow currently leads the Foresters in slugging percentage at .513 and is fourth on the team with his .316 batting average.  Huntington (11-10, 0-2) next travels to Indiana Wesleyan University on Tuesday, April 4, 2006, at 4 p.m.
