Biberstine, Davis Named Forester Athletes of the Week

HUNTINGTON, IN— The Huntington University athletic department announced its Athletes of the Week for the week of September 5-11, 2005. Volleyball junior Renee Biberstine and sophomore golfer Patrick Davis earned the honors for their excellent efforts during the week’s competitions.

Renee Biberstine

Renee Biberstine, an Elementary Education major from Berne, Indiana (Adams Central High School), helped lead the Foresters to a 4-1 week.  In their first conference match of the season, Biberstine came up with a critical kill in the fifth game to spur Huntington on to the win over Grace College.  She finished the match with 11 kills and three blocks.  At the Defiance College Tournament on the weekend, Biberstine led the team to a second place finish.  She tallied a team-high 43 kills in four matches and earned a spot on the All-Tournament team.  The Foresters are now 6-2 on the season and next host Indiana Wesleyan University on Tuesday, September 13 at 7:00 p.m.

Patrick Davis

Patrick Davis, a Graphic Design major from Huntington, Indiana (Huntington North High School), had an impressive start to his collegiate career.  Playing in his first match, Davis posted the Foresters’ best score in the two-day Indiana Wesleyan Fall Invitational with back-to-back rounds of 78.   His 156 tournament total placed him in a tie for 30^th overall.  The Foresters will next compete in the Taylor Invitational at Walnut Creek Golf Club in Upland, Indiana on Thursday, September 15 at 11:00 a.m.

The Huntington University Foresters compete in 14 intercollegiate sports for men and women. In the past eight years, Huntington has produced 52 NAIA All-America honors and 102 All-America Scholar Athlete honors.
