Denver & Mile Orchestra bring big band back

FOR RELEASE November 8, 2005

HUNTINGTON, IN—Denver & The Mile High Orchestra will bring big band back to Huntington University. The band’s third appearance in three years is set for 7:30 p.m. on Friday, November 18, 2005, in the Zurcher Auditorium of the Merillat Centre for the Arts.

“They are unique since they are the only nationally promoted Christian group performing and recording in a big band style with a distinctly Christian message,” said Steve Pozezanac, director of the Merillat Centre for the Arts.

Denver & The Mile High Orchestra was formed by a group of friends at Belmont University in Nashville, Tenn., in 1999. The group is made up of three trumpet players, three saxophone players, two trombone players and a rhythm section. Bandleader Denver Bierman, who was intrigued by the big band sound of the 1930s and 1940s assembled this group of musicians/friends to reinvent the style for the modern age.

“In an age when new bands come and go, the only way you can explain that Christian ‘big band’ is still going strong after five years is that God must be up to something. So our job is just to keep moving forward and make sure he gets all the glory,” Bierman said.

Tickets for the Denver & The Mile High Orchestra concert are $10 for general admission, $8 for seniors, and $4 for students. For more information, contact the Merallit Centre for the Arts Box Office at (260) 359-4261 or log on to www.huntington.edu/mca. The concert is underwritten by the Rocky & Carol Stickler Endowment.

The group’s current CD is “The Best of Denver & the Mile High Orchestra’s Swing!” The band will release another album in December 2005 called “Live at Long Hollow.” For more information, log on http://www.denvermho.com/.
