Hippensteel appointed to Huntington music faculty

Scott Hippensteel

HUNTINGTON, IN—Scott Hippensteel has been appointed to the position of Instructor in Music at Huntington University.  Most recently, Hippensteel served as the assistant band director for Huntington North High School and was a member of the Huntington University adjunct faculty. A tenor and bass trombone specialist, Hippensteel joins the full-time music faculty after having served as an HU adjunct instructor of music since 1997.

Hippensteel holds a Bachelor of Music Education degree from Indiana University where he was a K-12 instrumental music major with a trombone emphasis.  Hippensteel earned his Master of Arts degree in music from Ball State University. 

Since 1992, Hippensteel has served as assistant band director for Huntington North High School.  During that time, he helped direct marching bands, concert bands, pep bands, jazz bands, mixed chorus and pit orchestras for numerous musicals.  He also instructed high school music classes, coordinated band trips and instructed private lessons for all wind instruments.  In addition, he helped host the ISSMA District Organization Festival, which has been held at HNHS since 1992.

After joining Huntington University’s adjunct faculty in 1997, Hippensteel instructed courses in Brass and Percussion Techniques and Pedagogy, String and Woodwind Techniques and Pedagogy, and applied trombone lessons.  He has also served as guest conductor and trombone clinician for Band Fest 2004 and has performed with the Huntington University Orchestra and Pit Orchestra.

Hippensteel is an active member of several musical community organizations, including the Huntington University Wind Ensemble and the Manchester Symphony Orchestra.  Hippensteel has also served roles with the Fort Wayne Philharmonic, the Three Rivers Wind Symphony and the Blue River Big Band.  A member of the First Church of the Nazarene in Huntington, Hippensteel has conducted the First Church of the Nazarene Band since 1995.
