Huntington announces winners of Student Art Exhibit FOR RELEASE March 1, 2006 Huntington, Ind.—Huntington University recently hosted the 16th Annual Juried Student Art Exhibit from April 3-13, 2006, in the Robert E. Wilson Gallery of the Merillat Centre for the Arts. Sculptor, potter, teacher, and gallery owner Charlie Cummings served as guest juror for the exhibit. Cummings is the owner of the Charlie Cummings Clay Studio and Gallery, located in Fort Wayne, Ind. He selected the work for the student art exhibit as well as awarded best of show, first place, second place, third place, and special achievement recognitions. “As artists we all have the drive to create, but medium and technique are only a vehicle for communication,” Cummings said. “When we present our work to others there needs to be something there to move them. After three hours it was easy to choose the award winners. All of the award winning artworks combined good presentation, skillful use of medium, achievement of intent, and originality of idea…but all of these things came together to become something more. They became artworks that I will continue to ponder and cherish.” The pieces for the exhibit were created by Huntington University students, freshmen through seniors, who are enrolled in one or more art courses. This was the first exhibition for the work. All types of media were represented.
