Huntington University to observe World AIDS Day

FOR RELEASE November 28, 2006

HUNTINGTON, IN—Huntington University will recognize the 19th annual World AIDS Day on Dec. 1. Along with several Christian colleges and universities nationwide, Huntington students will host activities throughout the day to raise awareness among students, faculty and staff.

The event is being planned by the student group, Acting on AIDS, an initiative of World Vision.

“The reason that we brought Acting on AIDS to Huntington and why I am involved is because this is a preventable disease that is claiming the lives of our brothers and sisters,” said Beth Warblow, president of Acting on AIDS and a junior social work major from Byron Center, Mich.

Activities will include a prayer meeting on the campus mall, information opportunities at meal times at the Habecker Dining Commons and the Huntington Union Building, and a project called “Life at Stake.”

The prayer meeting will be held at 7 p.m. on Nov. 30 on the mall. Local churches are invited to join the Huntington University community as they pray for victims and all those affected by AIDS.

There will be stakes holding cards of information regarding a child affected by AIDS put up across campus for the “Life at Stake” project. World Vision supplied Acting on AIDS with the materials and the group will assemble them. The goal of the project is for students to take a card and commit to pray for the individual child throughout the day and beyond. There also will be an opportunity to sign a petition called “Make Your Mark for Children.”

For more information about or to get involved with the university’s Acting on AIDS group, contact Beth Warblow at bethanywarblow@huntington.edu. For additional information on World AIDS Day, log on to www.worldaidsday.org
