Huntington to host Concerto Winners Concert

HUNTINGTON, IN—The Huntington University Department of Music will hold its seventh annual Concerto Winners Concert on April 19 at 7:30 p.m. in the Zurcher Auditorium of the Merillat Centre for the Arts. The concert features the winners of the Huntington University Concerto Competition that was held in November 2006. 

Performers from Huntington University include senior vocalist Cathy Bennett, a music education major from Centerville, Ind., with the “Jewel Song” from “Faust” by Charles Gounod; sophomore vocalist Bethany Goodwin, a music education major from Fort Wayne, Ind., with “Batti, batti, o bel Masetto” and “Vedrai, carino” from “Don Giovanni” by W.A. Mozart; junior vocalist Kara Judy, a church music major from Pierceton, Ind., with “L’amour est un oiseau rebelled” and “Pres des ramparts de Seville” from “Carmen” by Georges Bizet; sophomore pianist Alicia Pyle, a piano performance major from Fort Wayne, Ind., playing the third movement of the “Piano Concerto No. 2 in C minor,” Op. 18 by Sergei Rachmaninoff; senior percussionist Ben Thompson, an instrumental performance major from Covington, Ind., playing the first movement of the “Concertino for Marimba and Orchestra,” Op. 21 by Paul Creston. The junior division winner, 12-year-old violinist Susie Koh, from Buffalo Grove, Ill., will play the first movement of “Symphonie Espagnole” by Edouard Lalo. The high school division winner, 17-year-old violinist Caleb Mossburg, from Uniondale, Ind., will play the first movement of the “Concerto No. 2 in D minor,” Op. 22 by Henryk Wieniawski.

All soloists will perform with the Huntington University Chamber Orchestra under the direction of Professor Scott Hippensteel.
