Huntington University freshman releases first book

FOR RELEASE February 20, 2007

Megan House

Huntington, Ind.—Huntington University freshman Megan House has released her first novel, “Passage to Freedom.”

The 192-page book, aimed at inspiring young adults, tells a story of a Jewish girl and her family escaping from Amsterdam to England during World War II. The story illustrates how the main character, Anya Kaskie, strives to find freedom from the Nazis’ rule, but also how she finds freedom within herself as she grows and develops into a young woman.

After writing the novel at age 15, House put it on the backburner until her senior year of high school when she decided to give publishing a shot.

She and her cousin, Kristen Ebsen, worked on designing the front cover for the novel.

“My cousin is a wonderful artist, and I knew she would do a great job with the cover. Ever since I started writing this book, I was hoping she would do the cover. I told her what the book was about, and she came up with the design,” said House, a journalism major from Huntington, Ind.

The book is available at major retailers, such as BarnesAndNoble.com, Borders.com and Amazon.com, as well as in the Huntington University campus bookstore, for $19.95.

The publisher, PublishAmerica, is the same company that has published 2005 Huntington graduate Rachel Tinon and Huntington senior Josh Clark.

Huntington University is a comprehensive Christian college of the liberal arts offering graduate and undergraduate programs in more than 70 academic concentrations. U.S.News & World Report ranks Huntington among the best colleges in the Midwest. Founded in 1897 by the Church of the United Brethren in Christ, Huntington University is located on a contemporary, lakeside campus in northeast Indiana. The University is a member of the Council for Christian Colleges and Universities (CCCU).
