Huntington to present annual One-Act Play Festival

FOR RELEASE April 25, 2007

HUNTINGTON, IN—Huntington University students will present the annual One-Act Play Festival on May 4 and 5, at 7:30 p.m. in the Studio Theatre of the Merillat Center for the Arts. Led by Huntington student directors, two works will showcase the talents of the university’s actors and designers. The public is invited to attend, and general admission is $2.

For tickets, call the Merillat Centre for the Arts Box Office at (260) 359-4261.

Kristen Kohaut

Student director Kristen Kohaut will present “Trifles,” a play by Susan Glaspell about two wives who accompany their husbands during an investigation of a man who has been murdered. By looking at the details the men deem insignificant, the women discover a surprising motive for the crime and the killer. During this investigation, the women struggle between turning the killer over to the law and choosing to have compassion for the killer.

“I chose this show because it’s a clear deception of a woman’s struggle in the world,” said Kohaut. “In the play the women discover how important it is to be there for one another.”

Kohaut’s cast includes Rebekah Posegate, Deanna Repic, Matthias Austin and Christopher Betz. Her crew includes Alicia Bonham as stage manager.

Keeley Lewis

Keeley Lewis will direct “When God Comes to Breakfast, You Don’t Burn the Toast,” a story about what to do when “The Almighty God” drops in for breakfast. When Harry and Beatrice Katzman are faced with this situation, the commonplace and the totally unexpected come together in a flurry of humor and excitement.

The cast  includes Cassandra Quinn, Peter Owens and Neil Rupp. Her crew includes Ryan Yoder as stage manager, Cassandra Quinn as props master, Abi Allwein as costume designer, Brad DeYoung as lighting and sound designer and Keeley Lewis as set designer.
