Social work students, faculty attend conference

Beverly Rutan, Carla McDonald, Emily Risser, Chynna Wright, Diana Hochstetler, Twyla Lee, Sheena Sharpe and Kimberly Kilander attended the NACSW convention.

HUNTINGTON, IN—Huntington University social work students and faculty attended the 56^th Convention and Training Conference for the North American Association of Christians in Social Work held in Philadelphia, Pa., on Oct. 26-27.

Carla MacDonald, assistant professor of social work, and Twyla Lee, associate professor of social work, attended the conference, along with the six senior social work majors who will be the first to graduate with a Bachelor of Social Work degree from Huntington University. Those seniors include Diana Hochstetler, Emily Risser, Chynna Wright, Sheena Sharpe, Beverly Rutan and Kimberly Kilander.

Students stayed at a Salvation Army in Philadelphia where they observed firsthand the services provided to the homeless and others in need. Students received free registration at the conference if they volunteered to assist presenters and conference directors. Each student volunteered approximately six hours during the conference.  

NACSW conventions are one of the most important ways in which a social worker can meet the goal of equipping social workers to integrate their Christian faith and professional social work practice. NACSW provides an excellent method for social workers to tap the resources of faith with one another to learn together and to be more effective and faithful as Christian in social work.
