Gilbreath to share perspective on 'white Christianity' FOR RELEASE October 5, 2007
HUNTINGTON, IN—Author and speaker Edward Gilbreath will continue Huntington University’s Forester Lecture Series at 7 p.m. on Oct. 23 in the Zurcher Auditorium of the Merillat Centre for the Arts. He will discuss his book, “Reconciliation Blues: A Black Evangelical’s Inside View of White Christianity.” As a black evangelical who has gone to school, worked, and worshiped in predominantly white evangelical settings for much of his life, Gilbreath wanted to share his journey of faith and discovery. In addition to his story, he interviewed dozens of other black evangelicals who have had similar experiences. “Being the ‘first’ or ‘only’ black can be a wild and sometimes lonely adventure,” Gilbreath says. Gilbreath has won numerous awards for his essays, books and editorial work, and his ministry seeks to build bridges across racial, cultural and generational lines within contemporary Christianity. Huntington University presents the Forester Lecture Series each semester. The lectures are designed to bring interesting people and topics to the attention of students and the regional community.
