Nursing Department partners with health department

HUNTINGTON, IN—The Huntington University Department of Nursing, in collaboration with the Huntington County Health Department, offered flu shots to faculty, staff, students and the public on Nov. 6.

Shots were given to 59 adults and eight children in the lower level of the Science Hall in the main nursing lab. The cost for the adult shots was $20. The health department provided the children’s vaccine at no cost.  

Nursing students staffed the registration table while Margaret Winter, the university’s director of nursing; Dr. Patricia Pierce, assistant director of nursing; and Tami Berlier, the health department’s public health nurse, administered the shots.

“We hope to continue our collaboration with the Huntington County Health Department each year in providing this service for the university and the public,” Winter said. “We also are working on coordinating a health fair at the same time with other components such as blood pressure screenings, sugar checks, as well as some educational aspects, which will be provided by our students once they are in the nursing major. So we are looking to expand the partnership with the health department to benefit the entire community.”
