Huntington senior assists Honduran women's ministry

HUNTINGTON, IN—As an incoming freshman, Katie Razor did not think she would spend seven months of her senior year back in Honduras.

Katie Razor is in Honduras on PRIME. PRIME stands for Practical Research and Immersion through Ministry Effectiveness. It is a program for ministry and missions majors at Huntington University that immerses seniors into field ministry for seven months, from May to December.

Razor came to Huntington as a psychology major, but changed her mind in the middle of her sophomore year.

Razor spends time with Miguel, a four-year-old taken in by the missionaries with whom she lives.

“My vision had started to change, and I knew that ministry was where the Lord was leading me, so I decided to major in missions because I knew that I was being called to it,” said Razor of Humble, Texas.

One of the reasons Razor chose to go to Honduras is because that is where she lived from the time she was 15 to 18.

“My parents are missionaries here,” Razor said. “My dad is the CFO for World Gospel Outreach, and my mom is the women’s minister and praise and worship coordinator at the English-speaking church we attend.”

Through PRIME, Razor is working with Jericho Ministries, an organization that reaches out to women in prostitution. She said Jericho Ministries offers a program of discipleship and occupational training.

“They teach the women how to sew and sell their things in the store that the ministry has,” Razor said. “They are in the process of building a facility outside of the city for the women where they will live and work.”

Right now, Katie Razor doesn’t have a specific role within the ministry, but she fills in where they need her. This includes teaching classes, assisting with short-term mission trips, helping with construction of the rehabilitation center they are building, and assisting her mentor, Betsy.

Razor says she is learning a great deal about herself and that God is teaching her so much.

“God is tearing down my walls and cleansing me of sin,” Razor said. “He is smoothing out my rough edges and filling my life with so much joy. I’ve learned about how prideful I am and how to show love. He’s teaching me the importance of prayer and not giving into the flesh, and is also teaching me how to be disciplined and how to seek after him. He is overwhelming me, and I’m loving it!”
