Education to take center stage at foundation breakfast

HUNTINGTON, IN—Tracey Shafer, Huntington County Community School Corporation superintendent, and Dr. Terrell Peace, Huntington University Department of Education chair, will be featured at the Huntington University Foundation breakfast on March 12.

Shafer and Peace will describe how the local schools and university work together to serve the education needs of Huntington County.

Tracey Shafer

Shafer is in his third year of service as the superintendent for Huntington County Community School Corporation. Prior to his promotion to this position, Shafer served as the interim superintendent for Huntington County Schools and the assistant superintendent for instruction for Huntington County Schools. Preceding his central office experiences, he worked for seven years as a building level administrator with five of those as principal at Winamac Community High School in Winamac, Ind. Prior to assuming the principalship in 1999, Shafer was a middle and high school science teacher and boy’s basketball coach for eight years at Lewis Cass High School in Walton, Ind.

Dr. Terrell Peace

Peace joined the Huntington University Department of Education in 1998 after teaching at the graduate level in Texas for 11 years. In addition to co-authoring “The Teaching Ministry of the Church” and contributing to the book “Racism in the Classroom,” Peace is active in a number of state and national professional organizations including the Association of Teacher Educators, Kappa Delta Pi and the American Association of Colleges for Teacher Education. He has held leadership positions in these organizations and made numerous presentations at their national conferences.

The breakfast line will open at 7:45 a.m. in Huntington University’s Habecker Dining Commons, and the program will conclude by 9 a.m. The cost is $6 per person. First-time guests eat free.

The Huntington University Foundation hosts a monthly breakfast meeting open to anyone interested in learning about current issues and Huntington University programs. Breakfast meetings are held on the second Wednesday of each month, September through May, at the Habecker Dining Commons. For more information, contact the Huntington University Foundation at (260) 359-4069.
