Six new members join Huntington University faculty

FOR RELEASE August 23, 2007

Huntington, Ind.—Six new faculty members have joined Huntington University in the fall of 2007.

Dr. Bobbi Buchholz

Dr. Bobbi Buchholz has accepted a position as assistant professor of mathematics. She earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in mathematics and computer science from Hastings College in Hastings, Neb., and a Master of Science degree and a Ph.D. in mathematics from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. From 2002-2005, Buchholz served as a graduate teaching assistant at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Her research interests include dynamic equations on time scales, difference equations and differential equations.

Silvia Choi

Silvia Choi began as assistant professor of Spanish. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in business administration from Columbia University in Paraguay and a Master of Arts degree in Spanish literature from both Hankuk University of Foreign Studies in Korea and Kansas State University. She is a candidate for a Ph.D. in Spanish literature from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. From 2004 to 2007, she has served as a teaching assistant at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Her research interests include 19th and 20th century Latin American and Peninsular literature.

Jody Davenport

Jody Davenport has accepted a position as instructor in physical education. She earned her Bachelor of Science degree in secondary education from Manchester College in North Manchester, Ind., and her Master of Science degree in secondary education from Indiana University-Purdue University-Fort Wayne. She is a candidate for a Ph.D. in post-secondary and adult education from Capella University in Minneapolis, Minn. Davenport has served as an adjunct instructor at Huntington University since January 2005. She has more than 20 years of teaching experience with students ranging in age from preschool to adults.

Dr. Jerry Davis

Dr. Jerry Davis began as director of graduate counseling program and professor of counseling. He earned his Ph.D. from Purdue University. He is a licensed clinical social worker, licensed marriage and family therapist, licensed mental health counselor and a nationally certified counselor. His research interests include sexuality and intimacy; integration of spirituality and counseling. He formerly served as professor of graduate counseling and director of the graduate counseling program at Indiana Wesleyan University.

Barb Michel

Barb Michel accepted a one-year appointment as visiting instructor in art. She has taught part-time at Huntington since January 2006. Michel holds bachelor’s degrees in art education and advertising as well as a Master of Science degree in education. She is a candidate for a Ph.D. in art education curriculum and instruction from Purdue University.

Dr. Tim Smith has accepted a position as assistant professor of history. Smith move from the United Kingdom to Huntington in the summer of 2007. He earned his Honors Bachelor of Arts degree in economic and social history from Leicester University, his Master of Arts degree in Asian history from London University, and his Ph.D. in history from the University of East Anglia. Since 2003, he has taught seminar classes and given lectures on a number of history units at the University of East Anglia’s School of History. Smith is highly proficient in French and has a working knowledge of Khmer (Cambodian).
