Best of Show 2007, “Classic Teapot,” ceramics, by Trista Watson, a senior visual arts education major from Chambersburg, Pa.

HUNTINGTON, IN—Suzanne Galazka, gallery assistant and education director for Artlink in Fort Wayne, Ind., will serve as guest juror for Huntington University’s 18h Annual Student Art Exhibit, to be held in the Robert E. Wilson Gallery on April 7-23.

Suzanne Galazka is an artist whose ink and watercolor drawings are well-known in Northeast Indiana. She currently works in charcoal. A Detroit native, Galazka completed a four-year course at the Center for Creative Studies in Detroit, majoring in fine arts – painting.

Upon graduation, she attended the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, Philadelphia, where she graduated with a major in fine arts – painting. Galazka traveled to Poland and attended a one-year course on Polish language and culture at the Catholic University of Lublin. She remained there for two more years to study art history.

Returning to Detroit, Galazka worked for the State of Michigan for three years and then moved to Vienna, Austria, where the paintings and drawings of Egon Schiele are housed. Schiele remains a major influence in her artistic work. The cultural atmosphere and her job at the United Nations kept her in Vienna for five years.

Returning to the States, Galazka lived and painted in Little Rock, Ark., and Memphis, Tenn., before moving to Fort Wayne. Galazka has been affiliated with Artlink since 1991 first as an Artist Panel member and currently serves as their education director. Galazka taught at Indiana University-Purdue University, Fort Wayne from 1997 through 2006. She taught Fundamental Figure Drawing, a foundation class, and Advanced Painting – Watercolor. Galazka continues to exhibit regionally and nationally and has extensive jurying experience.

Galazka will select the work for the student art exhibit as well as award best of show, first place, second place, third place and special achievement recognitions.

The pieces for the exhibit were created by Huntington University students, freshmen through seniors, who are enrolled in one or more art courses. This will be the first exhibition for this particular work. All types of media will be represented.

An artist reception and awards ceremony will be held from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on April 12 in the Wilson Gallery. The Huntington University Chamber Trio, comprised of Elizabeth Smith, violin; Marlene Schleiffer, oboe; and Steven Bergdall, keyboard, will play from 6:20 to 7 p.m.

The 18th Annual Student Art Exhibit is open to the public. The Robert E. Wilson Gallery is open weekdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., before and after all Merillat Centre performances, and by appointment. For further information, contact Barb Michel, interim gallery director, at (260) 359-4172.
