Davenport, Benge named Forester Athletes of Week

Huntington, Ind.—The Huntington University Athletic Department announced its Athletes of the Week for the week of Jan. 26-Feb. 1. Women’s basketball senior Lauren Davenport and men’s basketball senior Kyle Benge earned the honor for their outstanding efforts during the week’s competitions.

Lauren Davenport, an exercise science major from Andrews, Ind. (Huntington North High School), helped lead Huntington to a 2-0 week by averaging 18.5 points, 5.0 assists and 4.5 steals in the two wins. In the Foresters’ 84-79 win over Taylor, she tallied 19 points, two assists and five steals and she netted 18 points, dished out eight assists and had four steals to help lead the Foresters to an 80-63 victory over Grace. Huntington (17-4, 8-2) returns to action when they travel to Marion to take on the Wildcats of Indiana Wesleyan on Feb. 4 at 7 p.m.

Kyle Benge

Kyle Benge, an elementary/special education major from Plymouth, Ind. (Plymouth High School), averaged 25.5 points on 61 percent shooting from the field and 80 percent from the line in Huntington’s two games during the week. He scored 24 points on 6-10 shooting from the field and a 10-10 performance at the line in Huntington’s 65-62 win over Taylor. Against Grace, he went 11-18 from the field for 27 points. Huntington (15-9, 4-6) returns to action on Feb. 3 when they host Indiana Wesleyan at 7 p.m.
