FOR RELEASE October 31, 2008

Brenda Salter McNeil

HUNTINGTON, IN—The 2008-2009 Huntington University Forester Lecture Series continues on Nov. 13 with Dr. Brenda Salter McNeil. The lecture will be held at 7 p.m. in the Zurcher Auditorium of the Merillat Centre for the Arts.

Salter McNeil is the founder and president of Salter McNeil & Associates LLC, a reconciliation consulting firm in Oak Park, Ill. She is an ordained minister and holds a doctoral degree from Palmer Theological Seminary. She is a nationally-recognized leader in the movement for racial reconciliation, and has earned a wide readership for her books, including “The Heart of Racial Justice: How Soul Change Leads to Social Change” and “A Credible Witness: Reflections on Power, Evangelism, and Race.”

Each semester, Huntington University presents the Forester Lecture Series. The lectures are designed to bring interesting persons and topics to the attention of students and the regional community. The lectures are open to the public free of charge.

The Forester Lecture Series is coordinated by Dr. Jeff Webb, associate professor of history. For further information, contact Webb at (260) 359-4243.

In addition to the Forester Lecture Series, Salter McNeil will be a featured speaker at Huntington University’s Conference on Christianity, Culture and Diversity in America on Nov. 14-16. Pre-conference events will be held on Nov. 13.

Salter McNeil will speak at a chapel service at 10 a.m. on Nov. 13 for Huntington University, students, faculty and staff as well as conference attendees. A plenary session with Salter McNeil as the keynote speaker will be held at 7 p.m. on Nov. 14 in the Zurcher Auditorium of the Merillat Centre for the Arts.

In addition, Salter McNeil & Associates LLC is one of the sponsors of the CCCDA.

The Conference on Christianity, Culture and Diversity in America will address the growing issues of diversity in America, which range from race, ethnicity, gender, culture and religion, to age and the physically challenged—all from a Christian worldview. Given this, the plenary speakers and other presenters will share research that embodies the themes of Christianity, culture and diversity. Opportunities for networking and ongoing dialogue will be offered and encouraged with an emphasis on practical application and advancing diversity on Christian campuses.

To register for the conference or view the complete schedule, log on to www.huntington.edu/cccda. For further details, contact conference chair Susie Burson, assistant professor of education, at (260) 359-4150.
