HUNTINGTON, IN—The Huntington University 16-member cheerleading squad will host a cheer clinic on Nov. 22 from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 at the Merillat Complex for Physical Education and Recreation.

The squad invites girls ages 5 to 14 to participate. To attend the clinic, participants need to complete a registration form and send it along with a payment of $25 per person. All checks should be made payable to Huntington University Cheerleading.

Organizers suggest that participants pre-register for the event; however, registrations will be accepted at the door. Parents are welcome to stay and watch during the clinic. The following is the clinic schedule:

8:30 a.m. – Introduction, warm-up and grouping by age

8:45 a.m. – Teaching fundamentals of cheering, tumbling, jumping and stunting

10:30 a.m. – Break – Refreshments will be provided.

11:30 a.m. – Wrap up – question-and-answer time

“We look forward to making this a great learning experience for every participant,” said Candace Cooper, coach of the Huntington University cheerleading squad. “It is our hope that everything learned would benefit each girl in her future as a cheerleader.”

Participants are invited to return to the Merillat Complex for Physical Education and Recreation at 2:15 p.m. on Nov. 22 to demonstrate the cheer they learned from the clinic at a Huntington University men’s basketball game. The game begins at 3 p.m. Participation is encouraged but not required. All participants will be admitted free of charge if they wear the T-shirt they received the day of the clinic. Parents also may attend the game free of charge.
