Forester Night recognizes outstanding students, faculty FOR RELEASE May 15, 2009
Huntington, Ind.—The 38th Annual Forester Night was held recently at Huntington University. Foresters of the Year, the Alpha Chi Award and the Outstanding Senior Awards from various academic departments were given to several Huntington University graduating seniors. Foresters of the Year are voted on by the Huntington University student body. Kathryn (Katie) Crandall, an exercise science major from Anderson, Ind., was named Female Forester of the Year. Adam Widener, a broadcasting major from New Whiteland, Ind., was named Male Forester of the Year. Naomi Woods, a political studies major from Hillsdale, Mich., was honored with the prestigious Alpha Chi Award, given by vote of fellow members to the outstanding graduate in the Indiana Beta chapter of Alpha Chi Honor Society at Huntington University. Criteria taken into account for the award include academic excellence, contributions to the academic climate of Huntington University, contributions to Alpha Chi and its activities and personal excellence. For the Outstanding Senior Awards, faculty voted to select outstanding seniors from their respective departments and then presented plaques to the individuals on Forester Night. Professor of the Year, an honor voted on by Huntington University student body, was presented to Dr. Wayne Priest, associate professor of psychology. He has taught at the university for 12 years. Before joining the Huntington University faculty, Priest served as a clinical psychologist in Carmel, Ind. He completed his Ph.D. in counseling psychology and gerontological assessment at Ball State University in 1993. He obtained his Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology and religion in 1980 and his Master of Arts degree in religion in 1983 from Anderson University. He has been an adjunct professor in general psychology and other psychology courses for Anderson, Purdue and Indiana universities for several semesters. He has had several additional years of counseling experience at various clinics. Priest has participated in more than three dozen workshops on a range of topics, including aging, Alzheimer treatment, Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory interpretation and cognitive-behavioral psychotherapy. He has made presentations on similar topics at various conferences and has published in Clinical Gerontologist.
