Education honor society inducts 22 members

Huntington, Ind.—At a ceremony on April 20, Huntington University inducted 22 members into the Omega Psi chapter of Kappa Delta Pi.

Kappa Delta Pi is the international honor society in education. Education majors who are at least second semester sophomores and whose overall grade point average is at least a 3.5 are eligible for membership in Kappa Delta Pi. Dr. Terrell Peace, professor in education, serves as the chapter counselor for Omega Psi.

Newly elected officers include Callie Wyatt, vice president; Jenn Coplen, president; Abe Janson, foundations representative; Julie McCoy, membership chair; and Laura Groth, secretary.

Kappa Delta Pi has been in existence since 1911 and has more than 50,000 active members worldwide. Huntington University’s Omega Psi chapter was chartered on May 1, 2000. In 2003, Huntington’s chapter was honored as the newest chapter ever to receive an Achieving Chapter Excellence Award or ACE Award from Kappa Delta Pi’s national headquarters. In 2005 and 2007, the Omega Psi chapter received its second and third consecutive ACE awards at the national convocation.

  • Allison Baker, a sophomore elementary education major from Ossian, Ind.

  • Brittany Bauman, a junior elementary education major from Ossian, Ind.

  • Jordan Binkerd, a sophomore history education major from Andrews, Ind.

  • Regina Brenneman, a sophomore elementary and special education major from Delphos, Ohio

  • Emily Canary, a junior elementary education major from Franklin, Ind.

  • Emily Cordes, a sophomore mathematics education major from Dewitt, Mich.

  • Erica Cripe, a sophomore elementary education major from Goshen, Ind.

  • Bethany Ellet, a junior elementary education major from Huntington, Ind.

  • Katherine Geders, a junior elementary and special education major from Huntington, Ind.

  • Johanna Habegger, a sophomore elementary education major from Warsaw, Ind.

  • Melissa Hicks, a sophomore elementary education major from Fishers, Ind.

  • Michelle Kyler, a junior elementary education major from Columbia City, Ind.

  • Alex Lute, a junior elementary and special education major from Lansing, Ill.

  • Alex Nafziger, a sophomore mathematics education major from Wauseon, Ohio

  • Brandy Perron, a transition-to-teaching student from Huntington, Ind.

  • Bethany Portice, a sophomore elementary education major from Stevensville, Mich.

  • Alissa Prichard, a sophomore elementary education major from Van Wert, Ohio

  • Ashlee Smith, a sophomore elementary and special education major from Fort Wayne, Ind.

  • Jandra Sutton, a sophomore history education major from Auburn, Ind.

  • Jenna Thurston, a junior visual arts education major from Van Wert, Ohio

  • Kelcie VanDam, a sophomore elementary education major from Muncie, Ind.

  • Ryne Winger, a senior history education major from South Whitley, Ind.

The following elected officers were instated at the ceremony:

  • President: Jenn Coplen, a junior elementary education major from Fort Wayne, Ind.

  • Vice President: Callie Wyatt, a junior elementary and special education major from Winamac, Ind.

  • Secretary: Laura Groth, a junior elementary education major from Winchester, Ind.

  • Membership Chair: Julie McCoy, a junior elementary education major from Fort Wayne, Ind.

  • Foundations Representative: Abe Janson, a junior middle grades social studies education major from Parma, Mich.
