History professor to discuss Amish view of grace FOR RELEASE February 13, 2009
Huntington, Ind.—Huntington University will continue its Forester Lecture Series on Feb. 26 with Dr. Steven M. Nolt, professor of history from Goshen College. This event is scheduled for 7 p.m. in the Zurcher Auditorium of the Merillat Centre for the Arts. The focus for Nolt’s lecture is the 2006 massacre of five schoolgirls in Lancaster, Pa., and how the Amish community responded to this tragedy. Nolt earned his doctorate from the University of Notre Dame. He has co-authored books on Amish and Mennonite traditions, including “Plain Diversity: Amish Cultures and Identities” and “An Amish Patchwork: Indiana’s Old Orders in the Modern World.” His lecture will incorporate insights from his recent book, “Amish Grace: How Forgiveness Transcended Tragedy.” Each semester, Huntington University presents the Forester Lecture Series. The lectures are designed to bring interesting persons and topics to the attention of students and the regional community. All lectures are held in the Zurcher Auditorium of the Merillat Centre for the Arts at Huntington University. The lectures are open to the public free of charge.
