Communication students to receive national award
'World Gone Mad' places 2nd in NRB video competition

HUNTINGTON, IN JAN 23, 1998— Five Huntington College students won second place in the annual video competition sponsored by the National Religious Broadcasters. Their entry, "World Gone Mad," is a music video based on a song by Kenny Marks. Awards are to be presented on January 31 during NRB's annual conference in Washington D.C.

The Huntington students to be honored include:

Curt Hansen, a senior from Huntington, Indiana

Elizabeth Foland, a senior from Fort Wayne, Indiana

Jenn Platt, a junior from Huntington, Indiana

Michelle "Missy" Myers, a 1997 graduate from Chambersburg, Pennsylvania

Dan Parks, a 1997 graduate from Ligonier, Indiana

Each of these students has focused their studies on broadcast communication. Professor Lance Clark believes the students' opportunity to use state-of-the-art digital video editing equipment at Huntington College gives them an edge in the national competition.

"This is the second year in a row that Huntington College has placed in the NRB competition," says Clark. "Our students' videos were selected from hundreds of entries."

"World Gone Mad" took second place in the long form video category of the NRB video competition. Students say producing the award-winning video was a team effort. "We spent a lot of time polishing up the video to create it the way we wanted it. Each one of us took part in the final product," says Jenn Platt. "Winning makes each one of us very excited. Participating in the competition and attending the NRB convention gives us all a chance to make an impact on our world as well as meet people in the broadcasting field."

This is the second consecutive year that Huntington students have taken top honors in the National Religious Broadcasters' competition. Last year, two entries produced by 1997 graduate Christia Campbell Whitacre took second and fifth place. Mrs. Whitacre is currently pursuing a career as a producer in California.

Huntington College has asserted leadership within the National Religious Broadcasters, an association representing nearly 1,000 evangelical Christian radio and television stations, program producers, and related organizations around the world. Professor Lance Clark presently serves as secretary of the Intercollegiate Religious Broadcasters, a chapter of the national association.

The five students to be honored, along with a group of other Huntington College students, will attend the 55th Annual NRB Convention & Exposition January 31 - February 3, 1998 at the Sheraton Washington Hotel, Washington D.C.

Broadcasting is one of many distinctive programs available at Huntington College. Founded in 1897, Huntington College seeks to "educate men and women to impact our world for Christ." Located on a contemporary, lakeside campus in Huntington, Indiana, the four-year Christian liberal arts school offers graduate and undergraduate degrees in nearly 50 academic concentrations.
