Teaching Physical
Education in the Elementary School
Students have
been teaching physical education to the children in the Huntington County
Home School Association, gaining experience in curriculum integration,
lesson development and implementation, and formal and informal assessment,
while incorporating the INDOE physical education curriculum standards. This
experiential learning opportunity has ensued for eight weeks. (November
2007)
-
School and Community
Health Education
Students also taught
a health education lesson to area homeschooled children about nutrition and
physical fitness. The HU students created three learning stations at which
the homeschooled children gained knowledge of the food pyramid, learned to
personally assess their food choices, and the importance of regular physical
exercise. (November 2007)
-
The Rhythmic education class has gained experiential opportunities via teaching Huntington
University faculty to square dance, as well as partnering with Kids Kampus
to teach their four and five years-olds rhythmic activities using
manipulatives as well as gross motor skills. (November 2007)
