Program Features

As a Christian college, Huntington is not a refuge from the contemporary world, but rather an arena for encounter with that world and creative response to it. We’ll help you make a critical and personal response to contemporary issues, and challenge you to think through the relationship between the Christian faith, your academic pursuits, your career goals, and your personal life.

If you want to develop habits of honest, clear, constructive, critical thought, please consider our Bachelor of Arts degree in philosophy. Our Philosophy Department will teach you to examine the basic assumptions on which all knowledge and beliefs are built, and discover how the world of ideas fits together.

As a philosophy major at Huntington University, you will be trained to think deeply and critically for a variety of different fields.  You will grapple with the major issues confronting today's society in the light of the history of philosophical thought, the methods of philosophical analysis, and the Christian world and life view.

A philosophy degree is a good choice if you are looking forward to professional training in such areas as law and theology, or aspiring to a teaching career in philosophy.  There are numerous options for combining a major in philosophy with majors in other disciplines.

Graduates of Huntington University’s Philosophy Department have pursued a wide variety of careers. Montey Holloway (1972) is employed in the Notre Dame University Department of Philosophy. Stephen Swartz (1973) is a missionary with Wycliffe in Australia. After double-majoring in philosophy and history, Steve Gray (1984) pursued a law degree and is an attorney in Ypsilanti, Michigan. A philosophy major is excellent preparation for graduate studies in many disciplines. Learn how Huntington University helped Jonathan Evans (1993) succeed in graduate school.
