89 Percent Medical School Acceptance Rate
Medical schools which HU graduates have attended in the last ten years include institutions such as the IU School of Medicine, Michigan State, Northwestern University, the University of Illinois at Chicago, and the University of Toledo. A number of our chemistry alumni have gone on to become
physicians, surgeons, physician assistants, and health care practitioners in
other areas. For those interested in
exploring the world of molecules and the instruments that probe them, the
chemistry major can be a route to a successful medical career.
Opportunities that Work for You
Several tracks within the chemistry major are designed for
those interested in the health professions:
- The biochemistry track provides some background
in molecular biology as well as chemistry, and helps prepare students for
future careers in medicine, biotechnology, pharmaceutical research, or other healthcare areas.
- The pre-pharmacy track (also available as an
accelerated track) prepares students for pharmacy school.
Our students have also taken advantage of summer research opportunities both on campus and off campus to foster intellectual growth which
helps prepare them for future responsibilities in the health care professions.
