Letter from the President
Strategic Long-Range Plan for Huntington College
2000-2005

November 2000

Dear friends:

For one hundred three years, Huntington College has dedicated itself to providing a high quality Christ-centered educational program.  With Christ as our cornerstone, we have accomplished much.  A beautiful campus, accomplished faculty, growing reputation and enrollment, and vital Christian commitment all stand as testimonies to the faithfulness of our Lord and His work in and through the lives of the Huntington College family.  Yet, much remains to be accomplished.

This strategic long-range plan for 2000-2005 builds on the past and enables us to "better our best" in pursuing our mission.  We have experienced a period of significant change and growth at Huntington College in the last four years.   In the next five years, we need to manage that growth and pursue additional growth in enrollment and human resources.  At the same time, financial, physical, and technological growth must be realized.  No part of the plan, however, is quite so crucial as the initiatives that seek to enhance our academic curriculum and our learning environment.  The five strategic initiatives in this plan will fulfill these needs.

This past year, Huntington College faculty and staff undertook an extensive process of formulating initiatives, objectives, and action steps for our 2000-2005 strategic long-range plan.  The plan, endorsed by the faculty and staff and approved by the Board of Trustees in April 2000, is both energetic and ambitious.   Mr. Luke Fetters, who served as executive assistant to the president from 1997-1999, provided capable leadership, working closely with our consultant, Mr. Neil Veydt.  The Council for Planning and Assessment and President's Council including Tom Ayers, Jeff Berggren, Molly Deuberry, Bill Fisher, Norris Friesen, Dale Haupert, Ned Kiser, Ann McPherren, Paul Michelson, Ray Miller, Dave Rahn, Ron Webb, and Cory Whitehead provided valuable insight.  Numerous faculty and staff also participated in the process and lent their creative thinking. The Board of Trustees and President's Advisory Council on Excellence served as resource groups providing perspective and encouragement.  I am grateful for all who participated in this important process.

With God's blessings and the continued partnership of all members of the Huntington College family, I am confident that we can build on our first century of Christ-centered learning and begin our second century in strength.  Please join in supporting this very important endeavor as together we strive to educate men and women to impact our world for Christ.

Sincerely,

 G. Blair Dowden President
