A letter from G. Blair Dowden, president

September 26, 1996

Dear friends:

For one hundred years, Huntington College has dedicated itself to providing a high quality Christ-centered educational program. With Christ as our cornerstone, we have accomplished much. A beautiful campus, accomplished faculty, growing reputation and enrollment, and vital Christian commitment all stand as testimonies to the faithfulness of our Lord and His work in and through the lives of the Huntington College family. Yet, much remains to be accomplished.

This strategic long range plan for 1996-2000 builds on the past and enables us to "better our best" in pursuing our mission. We have experienced a period of significant changes to Huntington's physical plant and are also seeing increases in enrollment. In the next four years, we need to emphasize continued improvement of the academic environment, the spiritual cultural and the financial security of the College. The five strategic initiatives in this plan will fulfill these needs.

This plan for the future was developed through the hard work, ideas, and dedication of numerous individuals. Dr. Robert Boozer, assistant to the president for planning and assessment, provided capable leadership. He worked with the Council for Planning and Assessment and President's Council including Tom Ayers, Jeff Berggren, Dwight Brautigam, Paul Fetters, Bill Fisher, Norris Friesen, Junior Geiger, Francis Jones, Ned Kiser, Ann McPherren, Ray Miller, Carie Pearson, Don Rainbow, Anup Sharma, Jerry Smith, Paul Smith, and Linda Urschel. Numerous faculty and staff also participated in the process and lent their creative thinking. The Board of Trustees and President's Advisory Council on Excellence served as resource groups providing perspective and encouragement. My grateful appreciation for all who participated in this important process.

These are ambitious plans, but with God's blessings and the continued partnership of all members of the Huntington College family, I am confident that we can build on our first century of Christ-centered learning and enter our second century in strength. Please join in supporting this very important endeavor as together we strive to educate men and women to impact our world for Christ.

Sincerely,

G. Blair Dowden President
